2010 Africa Pavilion Ambassadors

Each year a number of Africans are selected as ambassadors for the Folklorama African Pavilion. ACOMI is proud to announce the following selected individuals as ambassadors at the 2010 Folklorama Festival. The 2010 festival will be held from 1st - 14th August with the Africa Pavilion operating from 8th - 14th August i.e. the second week of the festival.

Charles Beckley - Nigeria

Charles Beckley was born in Port-Harcourt City, Nigeria. He is currently completing his B.A. (Honors) in Economics at the University of Winnipeg. He is the International Students Co-coordinator at the University of Winnipeg and is an executive member of the Canadian Federation of Students (International Students Commissioner for Manitoba) and UFCW Local 832 (Youth Representative for Manitoba).

He currently works as a customer representative at Inspyre Solutions and as a research assistant for the Graduate Studies Committee at the University of Winnipeg. Outside of work and volunteering Charles participates in two choirs where he plays the piano for the Redeemed Christian Church of God and All Nations Full Gospel Church.

Charles is the Male Adult Ambassador at the Africa Pavilion for 2010.
 

Tracy Ezekwem - Nigeria

Tracy Ezekwem was born in Kano State, Nigeria where she lived for 10 years. She is fluent in the country’s three languages: Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba. She arrived in Winnipeg in April 2007 and is currently completing grade 12 at Kildonian East Collegiate.

She loves to sing, dance, and meet new people. She also plays basketball and participates in track and field. She volunteers at the Manitoba Children’s Museum and has been with Africa Pavilion since 2007. Tracey is a member of the Umunna (Igbo) Cultural Association of Manitoba.

Tracy is the 2010 Africa Pavilion Female Adult ambassador.
 

Ronald Huletey - Ghana

Ronald Huletey was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His parent migrated to Canada from Ghana. He is a grade 11 student at St. Paul’s High School. He has been volunteering at the African Pavilion for 11 years; as a dancer at age 5 and also at the cash register for the last 4 years. Ronald also volunteers at the YMCA and for St. Vincent de Paul society where he delivers hampers for less fortunate individuals and families. Ronald plays Basketball and is a member of the debate team at school.

Ronald is the Male Youth Ambassador at the Africa Pavilion for 2010.
 

Jennie Gorvie - Sierra Leone

Jennie Gorvie was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her father is from Sierra Leone and her mother is from Kenya. She is a grade 11 student at St. Norbert Collegiate and loves to play soccer, basketball, and paint African flags. Jennie’s favorite book is Anne Frank and her favorite TV show is the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She also loves listening to music from all over Africa.

Jennie is the 2010 Africa Pavilion Female Youth ambassador.
